India with a course of 69 medals, including 15 gold, registered its best performance in the history of the Asian Games in the 2018 edition held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia.
Overall, India maintained its top-10 ranking by finishing eighth once again. The previous highest tally of medals for India was in the edition of 2010 in Guangzhou, China, where they finished in sixth place with 14 gold, 17 silver and 34 bronze medals.
While there were some commendable achievements and surprise medals in many sports categories at the Asian Games of 2018, the athletic contingent was the most prominent, as it produced one of its best results to date.
In fact, track and field events continued to be the most productive area in India, as they produced 7 of the 15 gold medals in total.
The best players in athletics were Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Swapna Barman, Dutee Chand, Neeraj Chopra, Jinson Johnson, Arpinder Singh and Hima Das.
The best players in other sports included Rohan Bopanna / Divij Sharan and Ankita Raina in tennis, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in badminton, men quadruple scull team in rowing, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat in wrestling, Fouaad Mirza in riding, Rahi Sarnobat , Saurabh Chaudhary and Shardul Vihan in shooting, Amit Panghal in boxing and Pranab Bardhan in bridge event.
